    What a backwards way to learn a language I taught myself by just reading the sample texts in the back with a glossary You pick up declensions as you go It would be better if the text started you reading OE right away and explained the gramma

    This is my review for the Eighth Edition of Mitchell's Guide to Old English Overall I find it to be a useful introductory guide to the grammar syntax and pronunciation of the language It seems to be focused on guiding the reader through various Anglo Saxon texts in order to become a better reader and translator
