Rather underwhelmingbut this is a very early Eden 1950 reissued in the '70s so I'll assume it's not her best try another one later Like Mary Stewart's Wildfire at Midnight also an early work this book is of a traditional mystery novel thus it contains tropes that I dislike The characters are flat The big reveal

To be honest I wanted to read Dorothy Eden because I love the cover art so hard but actually this was just as I hoped it would be A little bit Gothic some romance a mystery and a general feeling of genteel Englishness of yore Unfortunately no actual talking dolls so maybe being a bit generous with the 4 stars

This is my second favorite book thus far under Dorothy Eden's books I love how she drew you in by means of a child and then later showed how the haracter too became indulged in the mystery Great read
